Hornby Island is one of BC's Gulf Islands, tucked
between Vancouver Island and the mainland, where warm ocean currents give us
the mildest weather in Canada. Because of our protected location, the Gulf
Islands get half the annual rainfall of mainland cities such as Vancouver or
Seattle.
Hornby offers the most varied landscapes and the most accessible public
beaches, parks and trails of all the Gulf Islands. We have two large white
sand beaches, two naturally sculpted sandstone beaches and many beautiful
pebble beaches. Hornby Island is criss-crossed with hiking trails, winding
through landscapes such as high grassy bluffs, old growth forest, Gary Oak
meadows and mountainsides with spectacular ocean views. In addition, we have
some of the best mountain bike trails on the coast.
Hornby is also home to some of Canada's finest artists, musicians, and
craftspeople. With three art galleries and many artists' studios open to the
public year-round, you could spend weeks just exploring our cultural
offerings. Yearly events such as the Hornby Island Blues Festival, the
Hornby Island Arts Festival and the Hornby International Film Festival get
rave reviews from visitors and locals alike. And Friday night jazz at the
pub is not to be missed!
